Corrosion Protection

Humber Gateway Wind Farm

During the spring of  2018 OPS technicians completed paint inspections and corrosion protection services to the wind turbine towers on the Humber Gateway offshore wind farm. Works were completed on time and to the clients satisfaction within the project milestones and on budget.

The process included coating applications executed to a 3-coat painting system in accordance with the following:

  • ISO 12944       Corrosion protection for steel structures
  • ISO 19840       Verification of dry-film thickness
  • ISO 8501-1       Preparation of steel substrates before coating application
  • ISO 8502-3      Dust Tape test
  • ISO 8502-4      Estimation of probability of condensation on steel structure
  • ISO 8502-9      Salt Test

The Humber Gateway wind farm is located 8km off the east coast of  Yorkshire in the North Sea; with 73 wind turbines it has an operational capacity of 219MW.
